JEFFERSON CITY, MO, Feb. 20, 2019 – The Missouri State Museum will present the program "Josephine Baker, Entertainer and Social Justice Activist" as part of its ongoing Museum After Hours series at
7 p.m., March 6. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the program will move to the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site for 2019.
Josephine Baker began an international entertainment career by performing the provocative "banana" dance, which exploited racial stereotypes. World War II and her activities as part of the French Resistance to Nazi Germany changed her persona to French patriot. Baker became committed to universal equality and spent the rest of her life trying to make it a reality. Join Dr. Debra Greene as she tells the story of this Missourian who had a world-wide impact.
The Missouri State Museum’s After Hours events are held the first Wednesday of each month. Doors to the Lohman Building will open at 6 p.m. with the program starting at 7 p.m. Come early to explore the historic site by entering through the track-side doors before the program. The program will be held in the first floor classroom, easily accessed from the south entrance door. Convenient parking is available in the lot next to the Lohman Building.
