Visitors are invited to learn more about Civilian Conservation Corps 1743 at Washington State Park during a week long celebration of the company in honor of Black History Month. Washington State Park staff will lead guided bus and walking tours of the park to discuss the cultural and historical significance of Company 1743 and their unique contribution on Feb. 13 and 20.
Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1743 was an African American company of the CCC and their craftsmanship can be seen throughout the park. On Saturday, Feb. 13, bus tours will take place at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and a walking tour will begin at 1 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 21, a bus tour will begin at 1 p.m. and a walking tour will take place at 3 p.m. Bus tours will last approximately 1 hour and walking tours approximately 1.5 hours. All tours begin at the park office.
Due to a limited number of slots, reservations are required for the bus tours. To make a reservation, please contact the park office at 636-586-5768 or at WashingtonStatePark@dnr.mo.gov. If a group or individual would like a tour outside of designated tour times, they may contact the park office to book a tour. This event is free and open to the public.
