JEFFERSON CITY, MO, APRIL 25, 2019 – Join us from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Graham Cave State Park and experience the art of coil pottery, beading, basket weaving, pictorial calendars and oral storytelling inspired by traditional Native American history and art forms.
A variety of interactive art forms will be on display during the event including Native American Plains sign language, calligraphy and pigment making displays. Park naturalists and partners will teach introductory level classes on the lawn in front of Graham Cave throughout the day.
In case of inclement weather, classes will be held at the park pavilion. All materials will be provided and classes are free. Registered participants and their guests are invited to pack a lunch, bring a blanket, and listen to Native American stories while dining at the cave.
The schedule for the day is:
- 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., Coil Pottery (Ages 12 to adult)
- 10:45 - 11:45 a.m., Beading (Ages 12 to adult)
- 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., Lunch Break and the Art of Native American Storytelling and Oral Traditions
- 12:45 - 1:45 p.m., Basket Weaving (Ages 12 to adult)
- 2:00 - 3:00 p.m., Pictorial Calendars in the tradition of Winter Counts (All ages)
There will be a 15-minute break with refreshments between each of the sessions.

Non-participants are welcome to bring a chair, stay and watch. Please dress weather appropriate and insect repellent is strongly recommended.
Graham Cave State Park is located on Highway TT, 2 miles west of Highway 161 at the #170 Exit off Interstate 70.
