JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 15, 2019 – The public is invited to participate in Laboring Pollinator's Day from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Graham Cave State Park.
As you celebrate the Labor Day Holiday, visit Graham Cave State Park to learn about and meet some of nature’s very own hard workers: the native pollinators. Park pollinators play an essential role in food production and in ensuring the survival of many wildflowers and other plant species. From 9:30 to 11 a.m., join our guided hike led by Park Naturalist Lorie Volenberg, who will give you the latest "buzz" on the variety of pollinators, their choices of plants and other roles in nature. From 12:30 to 2 p.m., join Volenberg for craft activities including building your own bee house.
Meet at the upper picnic area near the visitor center for both the hike and the crafting activities. The hiking trail will be selected closer to the event date to ensure the best wildflower display. Be prepared to hike up to 2 miles. Some sections of trails are rocky, and good hiking shoes are recommended. It is recommended to bring a bottle of water and to use insect repellent. The hike may be cancelled in the case of inclement weather, but weather will not impact the craft activities.
