First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site hosts holiday activities

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, NOV. 26, 2019 – Traditions abound at the First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site this holiday season. From caroling to a reindeer meet and greet, this holiday season at the historic site is sure to offer something to delight everyone in your family. The list of events includes:

Historic Christmas Past
Saturday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Join First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site interpreters when they partner with 26 historic houses, museums and privately owned homes to present a splendid grand tour embracing historic Christmases of the past. For this one-day event, each venue will be decorated with a festive flair and may offer costumed skits, music, other seasonal activities and refreshments. Choose a themed tour or customize your own. Visit the Historic Saint Louis website at www.historicsaintlouis.org to discover your newest, spirited holiday tradition. Nominal fees may apply at each site.

Carols at the Capitol by Candlelight, a Christmas Concert
Saturday, Dec. 21, 8 p.m. $10 per ticket (Reservations required)
In the glow of the candlelit legislative chambers, the Buckhannon Brothers will evoke memories of the past and bring to life some well-known Christmas songs and the stories behind these old-time favorites. These festive melodies are sure to amplify your holiday spirit. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale Nov. 29.

Meet Santa’s Reindeer
Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 21-22 3-5 p.m. Free
You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen - now get the chance to meet them and some of their antlered brethren up close. The reindeer flight instructor has brought some of his special friends from the North Pole as a special surprise for Christmas Traditions visitors. Join him in the backyard of the historic First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site as he delights visitors with funny stories about his reindeer pals. We are sure you'll enjoy the opportunity to meet and take photos with these beautiful animals.

Candlelight Reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas"
Wednesdays and Fridays, Nov. 29 through Dec. 20, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Free
Enjoy a special reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas," by a Clement Clarke Moore reenactor with musical accompaniment in the historic Chauncey Shepard residence at the First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site. Readings will happen every 15 minutes.
