JEFFERSON CITY, MO, SEPT 3, 2019 – Finger Lakes State Park will host an Adventure Challenge Race Saturday Sept. 14. Sign up now to participate in this adventure where your first challenge will be to kayak the 5K water trail that winds along Peabody Lake. Then return to the start and take off on foot for a 5K run on Kelley Branch Mountain Bike Trail. This trail leads through the wetlands of Kelley Branch Creek, along the ridges and pits of the reclaimed strip mines then to the finish line. Challenge yourself to compete in both sections of the event or take part in just one.

Chip timing will be collected for those who complete both sections of the race. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers who complete both sections. Register online now for $35 or the day-of for $40. The race starts at 9 a.m. with boats in the water. Check-in and packet pick-up will be at 8:30 a.m.

Sit-on-top kayaks will be available for rent for $25. Make your boat reservation by calling the park office at 573-443-5315 by Sept. 6 or bring your own canoe or kayak to compete. Tandem boats will not be eligible for prizes.

Race participants should be aware that Missouri State Parks staff recently received a report of the possible presence of harmful blue-green algae in at Finger Lakes State Park.  At this time, all samples collected have been NEGATIVE for the presence of toxins.  For more information about identifying and protecting yourself from harmful algal blooms and blue-green algae, please go to https://dnr.mo.gov/env/cyanobacteria.htm.
