Federal, state agencies will present Lower Grand watershed draft study at three meetings in October

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, OCT. 4, 2019 - A partnership of federal and state agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Kansas City District), the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri Department of Conservation will host three public information meetings to present the findings of a study of the Lower Grand River watershed and to discuss possible options to address an array of environmental issues there.

Together the agencies studied channel instability, stream bank erosion, sedimentation, logjams and stream capture. These problems alter water flowing in streams, impair public infrastructure, affect landowners and degrade aquatic and wetland habitats. This study has been conducted with cooperation from other partner agencies and input from the public, which will provide crucial guidance toward evaluating and selecting viable options, as well as in securing authorization and adequate funding for recommended construction projects.

The Corps of Engineers will host a series of three meetings this month to share information and solicit public input on the draft Lower Grand River Feasibility Study report. Each meeting, which will have an open house format, will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. A brief presentation on the draft study report will be given at 5:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. There will also be information stations with agency staff available to answer questions regarding the study.

Public Information Meeting Schedule:

October 15: Gen. John J. Pershing Boyhood Home State Historic Site, Memorial Museum and Leadership Archive Building, 900 Ausmus St., Laclede, MO 64651
October 16: Keytesville Community Center, 301 West Bridge St., Keytesville, MO 65261
October 17: Milan Community Center, 205 North Market St., Milan, MO 63556
