A special event featuring living history and live entertainment will be held in Jefferson City on Friday, May 1. "The Civil War in Living History" will take place at the Bill Quigg Commons area of the North Jefferson City Recreation Area from 5-8 p.m. with a special portion from 1-3 p.m. for schools and educational groups.
In addition to speaking with re-enactors, participants will have a chance to learn about the medical practices, photography and weapons of the Civil War era. The schedule of live performances includes:
5 p.m. – Howard Marshall, a noted Missouri fiddler and author of the book "Play Me Something Quick and Devilish."
6 p.m. – Paul Fotsch, an accomplished musician on both fiddler and guitar and performs a wide repertoire of traditional tunes and songs.
7 p.m. – Mark Rehagen, who has portrayed Abraham Lincoln at several reenactments in the Jefferson City area. He will address the crowd on Lincoln’s thoughts on reconciliation at the end of the Civil War.
The event is being held by the Missouri Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission and is sponsored by the National Park Service, City of Jefferson, Lincoln University, Missouri State Archives, State Historical Society of Missouri, Missouri's Civil War Round Tables and Missouri State Parks, a division of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
