The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded the southeast Missouri town of Grandin a $95,670 loan for improvements to its wastewater treatment plant.

This small borrower loan, which will be financed through repayments of loans made from Water Pollution Control bonds, will allow the town to construct an ultraviolet disinfection system to eliminate bacteria from the wastewater treatment plant’s discharge, protecting citizens and the environment.

The department’s Financial Assistance Center provides funding to assist communities with wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs. A portion of the funding will be targeted toward green infrastructure; water and energy efficiency; and environmentally innovative projects.

The project is estimated to cost $95,670 and is expected to be completed in March 2014. The Department of Natural Resources’ Water Protection Program will administer the loan funds and is committed to working with communities to assist in funding efforts that support water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects, and provide a financial savings.
