JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 11, 2019 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has renewed the Title V Air Operating Permit for the Bridgeton Sanitary Landfill in St. Louis County. The permit, also known as a Part 70 Air Operating Permit, is valid for five years.

Named after the subpart of federal law, a Part 70 Air Operating Permit is required by the federal Clean Air Act and contains all applicable federal and state regulations. It also provides all specific conditions required for a facility to operate in compliance with applicable regulations, such as emission and operational limits.

The Part 70 program does not impose new substantive air-quality control requirements or air monitoring requirements. If an operating permit application complies with the requirements of the State’s permit program and the facility complies with its construction permits, the department must issue the Part 70 Operating Permit in accordance with § 643.078, RSMo.

To ensure a facility complies with Part 70 permit requirements, the department oversees inspections conducted at least every two years by the St. Louis County Department of Public Health. Additionally, the landfill must submit semi-annual and annual reports, which identify any deviation from the operating permit, as well as any corrective actions the facility performed to address the deviation.

A copy of the operating permit is available at: https://dnr.mo.gov/env/apcp/air_permits.htm. More information about the Bridgeton Sanitary Landfill is available online at https://dnr.mo.gov/bridgeton/index.html.
