Funding will be used for water system improvements

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MARCH 23, 2022 - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded more than $11.2 in financial assistance to Missouri American Water Company for upgrades to its water treatment plant in Jefferson City. The project’s total cost will be $11,248,137.

The project includes the replacement of a below-grade clearwell and high-service pumping facility and routing discharge to a new finished water line connected to the distribution system. Other improvements include a new reinforced concrete duct bank, a new generator and other electrical system upgrades. The project will enable the Missouri American Water Company to maintain and operate a water system that meets drinking water quality standards and provide reliable water service for the system’s customers.

The project’s funding consists of an $11,249,000 Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan. This funding is estimated to save the Missouri American Water Company ratepayers approximately $2.1 million in interest over the loan’s 20-year term.

“From small towns to large cities, one thing every community has in common is the need for systems that provide clean, abundant water,” said Governor Mike Parson. “We make it a priority to help Missouri communities plan and fund water treatment system improvements that will continue providing the water they need to grow and thrive.”

“Grants and low-interest loans through the State Revolving Fund help Missouri communities with water and wastewater treatment system improvements that they might not have been able to undertake otherwise,” said Dru Buntin, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

The department is committed to assisting Missouri communities with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects. Through its Financial Assistance Center, the department provides funding opportunities for qualified communities with water quality, wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs. This project will be funded wholly or in part with monies received from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
