District will make collection system improvements

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, APRIL 1, 2021 - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources awarded the Jefferson County Public Sewer District a $500,000 Rural Sewer Grant. The grant is part of a funding package the district will use to extend its collection system to residential homes currently using private septic systems. The improvement project is expected to be completed in February 2023.

The project includes construction of a new pressure sanitary sewer collection system in the Weber Hill Terrace and Warren Woods developments. It will require approximately 1,600 linear feet of new sewer mains, along with pump stations and lateral connections. The completed project is expected to enhance environmental protection of the area by connecting residences currently using private septic systems to the district’s central wastewater treatment system.

The project’s funding consists of a $500,000 Rural Sewer Grant and the district has secured other funds totaling nearly $2.6 million to cover the balance. The funding provided by the department is estimated to save the district’s rate payers $500,000.

“One of our priorities is helping Missouri communities maintain and improve their water and wastewater treatment systems,” said Carol Comer, director of the Department of Natural Resources. “One way we do that is by offering a variety of financial assistance programs through which communities can improve key infrastructure and experience real economic benefits.”

The department’s Financial Assistance Center is committed to working with communities to assist with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects. For more information, visit https://dnr.mo.gov/water/business-industry-other-entities/financial-opportunities/financial-assistance-center.
