The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are holding a public meeting April 16 to discuss restoration project proposals in Webb City.
This meeting’s purpose is to introduce a request for proposals for upland prairie and riparian restoration projects in the Ben’s Branch and Center Creek Bottoms areas in Webb City. This is part of an ongoing restoration project on lands owned by Webb City.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service are acting jointly as trustees to begin the process of restoring natural resources injured by the release of hazardous substances from ASARCO’s operations in Jasper County. Natural resources injured by ASARCO’s operations include fish, crayfish, mussels, migratory songbirds, surface water and soils among many others. With the release of this request for proposals, the trustees are seeking to restore wildlife habitat and other natural resources in areas that have previously been remediated and contain low levels of residual contamination.
This meeting will be held from 6-7 p.m. at Missouri Southern State University’s Billingsly Student Center, Room 309, 3500 Newman Road, Joplin. It will feature a brief presentation from the Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and include a question and answer session.
