The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will host an Earth Day celebration in Jefferson City on Friday, April 24. The celebration will be held on the south lawn of the Capitol Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Earth Day is targeted toward fifth-grade students, but the free event is open all ages. More than 1,200 students and their sponsors are expected to attend. The event will include educational exhibits, interactive displays and stage shows, including live bird presentations from the World Bird Sanctuary.

The opening ceremony will include an announcement in recognition of the Earth Day 2015 Slogan Contest winner. Lauren Parker, a fifth-grade student at Southern Boone Elementary School in Ashland took top honors with the slogan, "Go with the Flow," based on this year’s theme of "Our Missouri Waters."
