JEFFERSON CITY, MO, OCT. 16, 2018 – Stories of the Civil War often center around the battlefield, but what about the hospitals where the wounded were given care? This important aspect of the Civil War will be portrayed on Oct. 27 at the Battle of Lexington State Historic Site’s Anderson House. Candlelight Hospital Tours are sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the Missouri Medical Brigade, the Tator Mess and Lexington Tourism.
The Anderson House served as a hospital for the Federal troops during the 1861 Battle of Lexington. Join us on Oct. 27 to experience what life was like for the wounded in make-shift hospitals. The candlelight tours will feature recreated scenes of doctors performing surgeries, women tending the wounded and soldiers planning their next move. Due to the nature of the event, it is not recommended for children under the age of nine.
This event is in conjunction with the City of Lexington Tourism. A limited number of tickets are available for this event and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are $15. Included in the ticket is the guided trolley tour from the parking area (located behind the buildings at 10th and Main streets, downtown Lexington). The first tour begins at 6 p.m., and the last tour begins at 10 p.m. Tours last approximately 30 minutes.
