JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 21, 2019 – The Missouri Archaeological Society Fall Symposium will be held at the Battle of Athens State Historic Site shelter house from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7.  This event is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri Archaeological Society. The fall symposium is an annual event held around the state in honor of Missouri Archaeology Month.

The theme of the event will be "Vessels of the Past." Morning activities will consist of presentations by professional and amateur archaeologists. A picnic lunch will be provided, followed by a walking tour of the Battle of Athens State Historic Site.

This event is free, however, there is a $10 charge for lunch.  Missouri Archeological Society publications and apparel will also be available for purchase. 

After the walking tour of Battle of Athens State Historic Site, drive to Iliniwek Village State Historic Site for another walking tour.

Battle of Athens State Historic Site is located 10 miles north of Kahoka, on Highway 81, then 4 miles East on Highway CC. Iliniwek Village State Historic Site is located 4 miles North of Wayland, on MO-27N, then 1 mile East on County Road 200,  then 1/2 mile north on County Road 188.
