Guests are invited to a Battle of Athens Re-enactment at Battle of Athens State Historic Site. This event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6-7 at the Battle of Athens State Historic Site near Kahoka.
Activities during this event will take place on both Saturday and Sunday. Guests on either day will have the chance to tour the Cannonball House and Smith Hotel beginning at 9 a.m. On both days, a re-enactment to commemorate Missouri’s northernmost Civil War battle will take place at 1 p.m. on the battlefield. On Saturday, a medical and civilian scenario and a traditional Civil War re-enactment will take place at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. A church service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Artisans and sutlers will be selling period items and food vendors will be available each day. There is no seating on the battlefield so visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. Re-enactors will be from the Missouri Brigade Medical Service.
Battle of Athens State Historic Site is located 10 miles north of Kahoka on Hwy. 82 and 4 miles east on Hwy. CC. For more information about the event, call 660-877-3871.
