JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 1, 2017 – The public is invited to celebrate World Atlatl Day June 3 at Graham Cave State Park near Danville. Park staff will be joined by members of the Missouri Atlatl Association for the free event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park’s lower picnic area.
The atlatl is a tool designed with a notch on one end to hold spears or darts for hunting, a technology used by early Native Americans. Activities are planned throughout the day, including demonstrating and teaching the use of the atlatl from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other games will be held after 2 p.m.
The MAA is hosting an International Standard Accuracy Contest between contestants. Pre-registration is not required and no experience is required to participate.
