JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 11, 2018 – The annual Third Saturdays at the Homestead series is under way at Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site. The next event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 19 and will feature Belle's Storybook Trail.

Nathan Boone's granddaughter, Belle, moved to the Boone Homestead in 1849. Participants will trace her adventures on the homestead as they stroll along one of the easy hiking trails while reading excerpts from the children’s book "Belle." The Boone home will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with interpreters teaching historically accurate games with period toys.

Other Third Saturday events will be offered through the summer, fall and mid-December. Each Third Saturday event features a different theme that helps visitors explore Missouri's frontier past through a variety of educational programs and hands-on activities that are appropriate for all ages.

All events are free and open to the public, participants are encouraged to dress for the weather.

Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site is located 1.5 miles north of Ash Grove on Highway V.
