Visitors are invited to a Survival Skills Workshop at Mark Twain State Park. Check-in for the event will take place at 8 a.m. on April 29 at the Si Colburn Group Camp at Mark Twain State Park.
There will be four formal classes offered. The four classes include:
- Introduction to wild foraging of edible and medical plants and mushrooms, taught by Heather Nelson, a master herbalist.
- Introduction to the Atalatl with demonstration and instruction furnished by the Missouri Atalatl Association. There will be an International Standard Accuracy Contest for participants at the end of the day’s classes.
- How to prepare a "Bug Out Bag". A Bug Out Bag usually consists of items needed to survive the first 72 hours when evacuating from a disaster.
- Communication, security and first aid, provided by Ham Radio operators and local emergency management personnel.
Registration is required by April 24. To register, call the park at 573-565-3440. Participants are allowed to sign up for three of the four classes, which will be running concurrently through the day. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Attendees should bring a lunch, a lawn chair, and dress appropriately for the weather.
