Release Date

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, APRIL 25, 2018 – Prairie State Park will offer a guided bison hike 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 5. The approximately two-mile hike will begin at the park’s Regal Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center.

Hikers will be able to see what the prairie has to offer this time of year, including opportunities to see the resident bison with their calves. Participants should be prepared for a hike over uneven terrain. They should bring water, snacks, insect repellent, a hat, sunscreen and wear sturdy shoes. Cameras are welcome, and binoculars will be useful for looking at the bison and other wildlife that inhabit the prairie. Participants are also encouraged to dress in layers for cool or warm weather as the winds can make a day feel much cooler.

Prairie State Park is located at 128 NW 150th Lane near Mindenmines. To register for a bison hike or for additional information, contact Prairie State Park at 417-843-6711.

The park has scheduled several more bison hikes through the rest of the year. A complete list of bison hikes and other events, as well as other information about Prairie State Park can be found at https://mostateparks.com/park/prairie-state-park.
