Prairie State Park will celebrate all things bison during National Bison Day on Nov. 5.  The day-long activities will begin with a guided hike at 10 a.m., Nov. 5 at the Regal Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center.

On May 9, the National Bison Legacy Act was signed making the bison the official national mammal. The 10 a.m. hike will be followed with a bison meat chili lunch at noon, and educational bison activities and programs will be held throughout the day. Visitors will be able to learn how the Native Americans utilized this animal for food and tool making and how such an iconic animal was driven to the brink of extinction before conservation measures were enacted.
