JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 15, 2017 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $50,000 Small Community Engineering Assistance Program grant to the Public Water Supply District No. 1 of Gasconade County to evaluate the wastewater treatment and collection system.

The district will use the grant funds to develop a facility plan to evaluate inflow and infiltration problems in the collection system, and for planning purposes, evaluate how the wastewater system will respond to potential future requirements. Inflow and infiltration can be groundwater, stormwater or drinking water flowing directly into the sewer system. This results in higher volumes of water being unnecessarily transported and treated which increases costs and energy usage.  The facility plan has an estimated total cost of $62,500. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2019.

The Department of Natural Resources is committed to working with communities to assist with water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects. The department’s Water Protection Financial Assistance Center assists with funding for communities with water quality, wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs.
