JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 31, 2017 – The Missouri State Museum will present the program "Archaeology in ‘The Foot’’’ as part of its ongoing "Museum after Hours" series on Wednesday, Sept. 6. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the program will begin at 7 p.m. in the History Hall in the east wing of the State Capitol.
Brianne Greenwood, Missouri Department of Transportation archaeologist, will present on the archaeological and historical investigation of the Duke Diggs Site in Jefferson City. The site was at the heart of ‘The Foot,’ once a thriving African-American neighborhood next to Lincoln University. The presentation will give a glimpse into the lives, work and pastimes of the citizens of the neighborhood.
The Missouri State Museum’s "Museum after Hours" events are held the first Wednesday of each month when the museum galleries remain open from 5-9 p.m. "Museum after Hours" is for those who have wondered what it would be like to visit the museum at night or whose schedules don’t allow daytime outings. In addition to special programs, the events allow a more relaxed opportunity to view all the museum exhibits. These exhibits include both old favorites and new offerings. Evening entry to the Capitol will be through the garage entrance on the east side of the building.
