Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about World War I and its impact on Missouri at the Missouri State Museum beginning in April. Programming and a new exhibit will focus on the state’s role in the war and commemorates of the 100th anniversary of U.S. involvement.
Events will begin with the program "Heroines on the Homefront: World War I and the Missouri Council of Defense’s Woman’s Committee". The program is offered as part of the ongoing "Museum After Hours" series at 7 p.m. on April 5 in the History Hall in the east wing of the State Capitol. Historian and author Petra DeWitt will explore the role of the Missouri Council of Defense’s Woman’s Committee in tackling critical issues of women, children and food supplies as Missouri mobilized for war.
On April 6 at 2 p.m., the Missouri State Museum will host an opening ceremony and reception for its newest exhibit, "Here at Home: Missouri and the Great War." The exhibit explores Missouri’s homefront during World War I. From mules to men to munitions, Missouri contributed and sacrificed much to the war effort. The exhibit will be on display in the History Hall of the museum through late 2019.
