The First Saturday Lecture series will continue at Arrow Rock State Historic Site at 10 a.m. on Nov. 5 at the site visitor's center. The lecture, sponsored by The Friends of Arrow Rock, Inc., will be "Native Missouri at the Time of the Louisiana Purchase," presented by Mike Dickey, the historic site manager.
What is now the state of Missouri was the home of nine American Indian nations in 1803. This program will provide a broad overview of the history and culture of the nine tribes that called Missouri their home and what ultimately happened to them.
Dickey has collaborated on projects with the Osage Tribal Museum and Osage Nation Cultural Center in Pawhuska, Okla. for the past 15 years. He is the author of "People of the River’s Mouth: In Search of the Missouria Indians" the first book written about the native nation from whom the river and state took its name. He is also the author of "Arrow Rock: Crossroads of the Missouri Frontier." The lecture is free and open to the public.
