JEFFERSON CITY, MO, APRIL 16, 2018 – Graham Cave State Park will offer two different guided hikes Saturday, April 21, including a Wildflower Hike from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and a Story Hike from 3:30 to 4 p.m.
Led by Naturalist Lorie Volenberg, the Wildflower Hike features a .6-mile on two of the park’s most popular trails, Fern Ridge Trail and Graham Cave Trail. These two trails, both with a moderate to rugged difficulty trail rating, offer hikers opportunities to see a wide variety of wildflowers as they pass by scenic sandstone formations and through rich valley forests.
The Wildflower Hike will begin at the park’s Lower Picnic Shelter parking lot. Hikers are encouraged to bring cameras, notepads and flower identification books. Be sure to dress in layers, wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots, and bring a bottle of water. Insect repellent is also recommended.
The Story Hike features a .3-mile hike on Graham Cave Trail, which has a moderate trail rating. Graham Cave was a seasonal home to Native Americans living as far back as 10,000 years ago. During the hike, Naturalist Lorie Volenberg will share the story of how ancient peoples lived and adapted to environmental changes over thousands of years.
The Story Hike will begin at the lower parking lot near the park’s interpretive shelter. Hikers are encouraged to dress in layers, wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots, and bring a bottle of water. Insect repellent is also recommended.
