Visitors are invited to a guided bison hike at Prairie State Park near Mindenmines. The hike will begin at 10 a.m. on March 4 at the Regal Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center.

It is almost springtime and the prairie is just beginning to wake after the winter slumber. Guests of the bison hike will get to explore the prairie while learning about how it is essential for the survival of the bison.

Hikers should be prepared for a hike over uneven terrain. Bringing water, snacks, insect repellent, a hat, sunscreen and wearing sturdy shoes is recommended. Binoculars will be useful in looking at bison and other wildlife that inhabit the prairie. Participants are also encouraged to dress for the weather as prairie winds can be strong this time of year.
