Guests can explore the prairie while learning about bison on a guided bison hike at Prairie State Park. The hike will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 1 at the Regal Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center.
The grass is green and growing and the bison are ready to have their calves. The hike will provide the opportunity to see what the prairie has to offer this time of year.
Hikers should be prepared for a hike over uneven terrain. Bringing water, snacks, insect repellent, a hat, sunscreen, and wearing sturdy shoes is recommended. Binoculars will be useful in looking at bison and other wildlife that inhabit the prairie. Participants are also encouraged to dress for cool or warm weather as the winds can make a day feel much cooler.
