JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 27, 2018 – Graham Cave State Park will offer two different educational hikes Saturday, July 7, at the park. A Hunt for the Scavenger Hike is set for 10 to 11:30 a.m., and a Graham Cave Story Hike will be offered from 3:30 to 4 p.m.
You may have been on a scavenger hunt, but have you ever hunted the scavenger? Scavengers and decomposers have very important roles in nature. Join park naturalist Lorie Volenberg on a 0.3-mile somewhat rugged hike of Fern Ridge Trail as she guides participants on a hunt for Missouri’s most common scavengers and decomposers.
Participants should meet at the park’s lower picnic shelter parking lot. Hikers are encouraged to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, and to bring a bottle of water. Insect repellent is highly recommended.
For the Graham Cave Story Hike, Volenberg will lead participants on a 0.3-mile moderate-level hike on Graham Cave Trail where she will share the story of how the peoples lived and adapted to environmental changes over the course of 9,000 years. Participants should meet at the lower parking lot near the park’s interpretive shelter. Participants are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, and insect repellent is recommended.
