JEFFERSON CITY, MO, APRIL 6, 2018 – The Missouri State Museum and the Missouri Folk Arts Program will host a basket-making demonstration at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10. Cosponsored by Missouri State Parks, the drop-in program will be located in the History Hall in the State Capitol’s east wing.
Master basket makers Joe and Alice Dudenhoeffer and their apprentice will demonstrate the art and tradition of split-oak basket making. The Dudenhoeffers are part of the Missouri Folk Arts Program’s Traditional Arts Apprenticeship. This program pairs master folk artists with apprentices to pass traditions to the next generation. Visitors are invited to learn more about the apprenticeship program and the art of basket making from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
