JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JULY 3, 2017 – This year’s Explorer Day Camp with a focus on birds will be held July 7 at Sam A. Baker State Park near Patterson. The free event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. is for kids ages six years and older who love the outdoors and want to learn more about Missouri’s feathered friends.
Participants of the Explorer Day Camp will earn a patch to become a Missouri State Parks and Historic Sites Explorer so it is perfect for anyone working on a patch or those interested in getting started.
This year’s day camp will focus on birds – in fact its theme is Birdstravaganza. The birds of Missouri bring a sense of wonder and intrigue with their cheerful songs, bright colors and unusual lifestyles. The day will focus on what makes birds unique and so adaptable.
Activities include a guided birdwatching hike, building a birdfeeder, decorating t-shirts and more crafts and activities. The main program runs until 4 p.m. with an option to attend the evening program, Super Owls.
Participants should wear sturdy shoes and bring sunscreen, insect repellent, drinking water and a t-shirt for decorating. They should also bring a sack lunch; snacks will be provided in the afternoon.
Registration is required by July 6. At least one adult is required to attend the event with the child(ren) and all participants must join in all activities in order to receive their explorer patch.
