City will make water treatment system improvements
JEFFERSON CITY, MO, FEB. 3, 2021 - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $40,000 Small Community Engineering Assistance Program grant to the city of Galena to evaluate its wastewater system. The grant program offers funding to help small communities cover engineering costs for evaluating wastewater system improvements.
The city will use the grant to identify wastewater system improvements needed to continue reliable service to the area, meet permit requirements and reduce stormwater infiltration into sewer collection pipes. The facility plan should be complete in May 2021.
Through this grant, cities like Galena can fully assess their wastewater treatment facilities and identify improvements for greater efficiency and effectiveness. This process also allows growing communities to plan for future wastewater needs as they develop.
The department is committed to assisting Missouri communities that have water quality, wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs. Through its Financial Assistance Center, the department provides funding opportunities to help communities cover the cost of water and wastewater infrastructure improvement projects.
