JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MARCH 29 2022 - Working with stakeholder groups, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has identified initiatives for Cycle 1 of the Missouri State Energy Planning (MoSEP) process. The energy planning process is designed to identify and address topics critical to Missouri’s current and future energy needs.
Following a series of regional meetings, the department identified stakeholder-suggested initiatives based on criteria presented by the department during the meetings. These criteria included the following: the relation of initiatives to the six statewide core values for the MoSEP process; having an initiative champion to partner with the department; being regionally relevant; consensus-based to the greatest extent possible; actionable; time-bound; and measurable.
During Cycle 1, formal stakeholder workgroups will move forward to develop summary and action reports for the following initiative topics:
- Streamlining solar permitting.
- Electric vehicle infrastructure development.
- Residential energy efficiency real estate valuation/energy efficiency on the real estate industry’s multiple listing service.
- Energy system training and installation at schools.
- Missouri metals and battery storage.
- Knowledge exchange to collect and disseminate best practices and opportunities in the energy sector.
Exploratory stakeholder workgroups will develop other initiative topics, including the following, for consideration during Cycle 2:
- Biofuels expansion and education.
- Renewable natural gas and hydrogen hub.
- Commercial building energy efficiency education.
- Combined heat and power.
- Industrial assessment center outreach, awareness and education.
- Pay As You Save® financing outreach and education.
“These initiatives reflect stakeholder feedback on how to support affordable, reliable, Missouri-made energy,” said Craig Redmon, director of the department’s Division of Energy. “We look forward to the upcoming MoSEP process workgroup discussions that will consider actionable results across Missouri.”
