JEFFERSON CITY, MO, FEB. 16, 2018 – Honoring Black History month, Mark Twain State Park and Historic Site will host an open house featuring the history and work of Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1743. Company 1743 was an African-American CCC company responsible for building the CCC shelter in the park’s Buzzard’s Roost picnic area.
The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Mark Twain Memorial Shrine, 37352 Shrine Road, Florida, MO. Presentations will be given at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the museum. CCC artifacts will also be on display.
The park and historic site are also seeking old photographs, letters and other memorabilia from Company 1743. Park staff will be on hand during the open house to scan or photograph items that members, family members or friends are willing to share with the exhibit.
