JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 30, 2017 – The importance of salt mining in the area will be remembered at the Boonslick Folk Festival Sept. 4 at Boone’s Lick State Historic Site near Boonsboro. The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to the public.
Boone’s Lick is the site of an early 19th century salt manufacturing industry. To remember those days, the festival will feature a variety of historic crafters giving demonstrations of 19th century crafts that were important to pioneer settlers in the Boonslick area. Crafts will include rope making, making corn shuck dolls and quilting. There will be displays about salt mining and frontier life, children’s games and activities, food and musicians playing music of the period.
The event is sponsored by Missouri State Parks in partnership with the Boonslick Area Tourism Council.
