JEFFERSON CITY, MO, SEPT. 11, 2019 – Bollinger Mill State Historic Site invites the public to the first annual Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28. This event is an opportunity for families, friends and the local community to gather together at the historic site to welcome fall. Visitors can enjoy the 19th century gristmill and the oldest covered bridge in Missouri: Burfordville Covered Bridge.
During this event, visitors will have the opportunity to see all four floors of the mill on a free self-guided tour. There will be a free scarecrow building program at 10 a.m. in the day-use area. Straw and twine will be provided. Participants should bring old clothing, such as overalls and shirts, for their scarecrows. Pre-registration is required for this activity. Members of the Egypt Mills Antique Tractor Club will have their machines on display in the day-use area.
The Whitewater Bluegrass Band will perform a free concert in the day-use area at 2 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair for seating. The Whitewater Bluegrass Band has members from the Cape Girardeau and Sikeston areas and plays traditional bluegrass and bluegrass gospel music with a little humor included. Members are Rodney Eftink, Shawn Asmus, Kevin Sigman, Dan Reno and George Dickerson.
Nancy's Fancy Kettle Corn and Straight Line Swine BBQ of Cape Girardeau will be at the site selling food and beverages.
Bollinger Mill State Historic Site is located at 113 Bollinger Mill Road in Burfordville. Take Highway 34 to Highway OO to Highway HH in Cape Girardeau County. For more information about the event, or to register for the scarecrow building program, contact the historic site at 573-243-4591.
