Explore the world of archaeology at Archaeology Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 10 at Washington State Park near De Soto. The free event will be held at the park’s Big River Day-Use Area.
The day will feature demonstrations of corn grinding and flintknapping, and guests can learn about atlatls, an early primitive weapon. There will be children’s activities including making petroglyph necklaces and other crafts. WildHeart, a musical group that encourages listeners to get out and enjoy nature, will perform shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tours to the petroglyph site will be held at 2 p.m.
The event is held in collaboration with Three Rivers Chapter of the Missouri Archaeological Society.
