Tour the heirloom gardens at Deutschheim State Historic Site June 6-7
Visitors can tour Deutschheim State Historic Site's heirloom gardens on June 6 and 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, visitors will be able to learn about 19th century gardening techniques, heirloom plants and their uses during the early Missouri settlement period. Also available for viewing will be a small 1880s half-timber barn featuring historic farm and garden tools.
During the event, visitors will be greeted by gardeners in period attire. Additionally, free handouts will be available on heirloom gardening. Traditional pink lemonade and springerle cookies flavored with lavender will be served. Dulcimer music from the 19th century will be performed periodically.
The garden visit and barn tour are free of charge. Tours of the historic 1840s Pommer-Gentner House and Strehly House/Winery/Print Shop are conducted at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. for the regular admission price of $5 per adult and $3 per youth. Group rates are available.
