Guided bison and wildflower hikes at Prairie State Park in August
Guests can explore all the prairie has to offer during the guided bison hike and wildflower walk at Prairie State Park. The guided bison hike will be Saturday, Aug. 6 and the wildflower walk will be Saturday, Aug. 13. Both events will start at 10 a.m. at the Regal Tallgrass Prairie Nature Center.
The heat of summer has settled in, but that does not bother the prairie or the bison that inhabit it. These hikes will provide guests the opportunity to see the bison in their native habitat and learn about the efforts that are crucial in preserving the land. Guests can enjoy taking pictures of the wildlife, while learning more about the wildflowers uses and identifications.
Hikers should be prepared for a two-mile hike over uneven terrain. Bring water, snacks, insect repellent, a hat and sunscreen. Wearing sturdy shoes is recommended. Binoculars and a camera are useful for viewing the bison and capturing the images of the day.
