Washington State Park hosts annual Archaeology Day event Sept. 8

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 28, 2018 – Washington State Park invites the public to its annual Archaeology Day event 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the park’s Big River day use area. This free event is held in collaboration with the Three Rivers Chapter of the Missouri Archaeological Society.

The Archaeology Day event will feature activities for kids, including corn grinding and making petroglyph necklaces, along with other crafts and games. The Three Rivers Chapter of Missouri Archeological Society will also have artifacts on display. Demonstrations given throughout the day will include atlatl throwing and flint knapping. A guided tour by Washington State Park interpretive staff will be held at the Petroglyph Site at 2 p.m.
