First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site hosts birthday party for Missouri August 10

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 1, 2018 – It's Missouri's birthday, and you're invited! First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site will host a special Statehood Day celebration 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, August 10, at the historic site. This free event is designed to help commemorate the 197th anniversary of Missouri becoming a state.

The public is invited to an open house to view the buildings where our first legislators and senators met from 1821 to 1826 to go about the business of operating as a new state. Visitors can learn about Missouri's road to statehood while visiting with the site's interpreters and enjoying free birthday cake and lemonade. Activities include historic demonstrations and a presentation by the World Bird Sanctuary at 1 p.m.
