Plein Air at the Landing Aug. 10

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JULY 24, 2019 – The Missouri State Museum and Jefferson Landing State Historic Site will host "Plein Air at the Landing" from 1 - 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10. Participants are invited to sit on the lawn and paint the landscape around the historic site.

En plein air is a French expression that means "in the open air." It is used by artists to describe painting outdoors, capturing landscapes and using natural light. Come together with other painters for this "paint out" and capture the beauty of Jefferson City at the Landing with views of the Capitol, the Governor's Mansion and garden, and the historic buildings of Jefferson Landing.

Participants are asked to bring their own painting supplies including paint, brushes, canvas, easels, chairs and other items for painting outdoors. The use of insect repellent is encouraged. Painters at the event will also be invited to hang their works in the Rozier Gallery at the Union Hotel for the upcoming exhibit "Plein Air Missouri," which opens Aug. 13 and runs through Dec. 1.

Jefferson Landing State Historic Site is located at 100 Jefferson in St. Jefferson City. For more information about the event, call the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site at 573-751-2854.
