FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“Ghostwriters: A Look at two Spiritualist Authors in Early 20th Century St. Louis” at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site on Dec. 4

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, NOV. 19, 2019 – The Missouri State Museum will present “Ghostwriters: A Look at two Spiritualist Authors in Early 20th Century St. Louis” as part of its ongoing “Landing After Hours” series at 7 p.m.,Wednesday, Dec. 4. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the program will move to the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site for 2019.

Beginning with the Fox sisters in the mid-19th century, the Spiritualist movement took America by storm. Even by the early 20th century the movement continued to see popularity, though that popularity was beginning to fade. Lucas Schwartze, Missouri State Museum Interpretive Resource Specialist, will describe how this movement manifested in St. Louis, and discuss two authors from St. Louis who claimed to have used the Ouija board to contact spirits in order to pen posthumous novels.

The Missouri State Museum’s After Hour events are held the first Wednesday of each month. Doors to the Lohman Building will open at 6 p.m. with the program starting at 7 p.m. Come early to explore the historic site by entering through the track-side doors before the program. The program will be held in the first floor classroom, easily accessed from the south entrance door. Convenient parking is available in the lot next to the Lohman Building.

Jefferson Landing State Historic Site is located at 100 Jefferson St. in Jefferson City. For more information about the event, call the Missouri State Museum at 573-751-2854.
