JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JAN. 28, 2019 – Bennett Spring State Park and the Lebanon Sunbonnet Garden Club held a joint art contest to promote children taking an active role in caring for the land. Eighty-three children, grades first through fifth, submitted posters focused on recycling, reusing, reducing waste and not littering.

The top five art contest winners are

  • Addison Nichols-First grade from Knob Noster
  • Alina Neal-Second grade from Springfield
  • Alyssa Richardson-Third grade from Richland
  • James Peregoy-Fourth grade from Lebanon
  • Madelyn Day-Fifth grade from Lebanon

The winners of the contest received a $10 gift certificate. Their artwork has been submitted to the National Garden Club State Chairman to be considered in representing the state of Missouri. Artwork from the winners of each state will be considered for use in an official USDA Forest Service promotion this year.

This kickoff was part of the joint efforts by the MDNR's Division of State Parks, Missouri Department of Conservation, U.S. Forest Service, Lebanon Sunbonnet Garden Club, World Bird Sanctuary, Lebanon High School, and Missouri Master Naturalist. The art contest is an annual joint partnership activity held in conjunction with Bennett Spring State Park’s fall activities.
