The Missouri Department of Natural Resources Hazardous Waste Program provides oversight on the investigation and remediation of hazardous substance sites in Missouri.
The locator map allows users to conduct a web-based search for hazardous substance investigations and cleanups within a specific community or area. Users may click on a point or area to review a site information summary, and links to important documents from department files are available. Downloadable data layers are also available that environmental professionals, local governments, and utilities are encouraged to utilize to incorporate review of environmental activity and use limitations into permitting, planning and development activities.
The map currently contains Superfund, Federal Facilities, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Corrective Action, and Brownfields/Voluntary Cleanup Program sites in the following categories:
- ACTIVE SITES - Sites where no investigation or remedial action has been performed, or where remedial actions are in progress but are not complete.
- LONG TERM STEWARDSHIP SITES - Sites where remedial action has been taken to address known risks to human health, public welfare, and the environment and the site is suitable for certain land uses and that further investigation and remedial action is not required.
For more information on long-term stewardship in Missouri, visit the department's Long-Term Stewardship Web Page.
- ENVIRONMENTAL NOTICE SITES - Sites where an advisory regarding environmental conditions may be warranted. Please review information associated with each site for more information.
- COMPLETED SITES - Sites where previous concerns about contamination should no longer be an issue because of removal of waste and contamination or investigation results that demonstrate that contamination is now below levels considered suitable for unrestricted use.
Map users are encouraged to check for updates as the Hazardous Waste Program improves the information provided through this map. Locations for additional types of sites, additional site boundaries and many more documents will be added to the system in the future.
