Measuring the Height of A Dam
The Rules and Regulations provide definitions of terms used in administration of the Missouri Dam Safety Law. The proper method of measuring the height of a dam is based on these definitions. However, we get many questions concerning the proper method of measuring the height of a dam to determine if it falls within the jurisdiction of the law. The following diagrams illustrate the proper method for measuring the height of a dam for three common situations encountered in Missouri:
- Case A - The dam has a spillway pipe that discharges at the toe of the dam.
- Case B - The dam has a spillway pipe that discharges above the toe of the dam. (Under Construction)
- Case C - The dam does not have a spillway pipe.
