The Missouri Department of Natural Resources administers funds to a statewide network of 18 local weatherization agencies to provide weatherization services and energy efficiency and education to eligible clients. Allocations to these agencies are based on the percentage of the state's total low-income households within each service area. The program reduces clients’ energy bills while stimulating the state and local economy.
- Since 1977, more than 193,000 Missouri homes have been weatherized through the Weatherization Assistance Program
- Weatherization reduces residential and power plant emissions of carbon dioxide by 2.65 metric ton/year per home
- Weatherization decreases national energy consumption by the equivalent of 24.1 million barrels of oil annually
- Weatherization saves, on average, $370 per house in heating and cooling costs annually at current prices
- Nationally, the Weatherization Assistance Program supports 8,500 jobs and provides weatherization services to approximately 35,000 homes every year
Primary funding for Missouri's weatherization efforts comes from the U.S. Department of Energy's Weatherization Assistance Program.
