PROPOSED AIR PERMIT AMENDMENT FOR
KANSAS CITY POWER & LIGHT -- IATAN

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 28, 2008 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources invites the public to review and comment on a proposed construction air permit amendment for Kansas City Power & Light -- Iatan Generating Station in Platte County.

The department will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the West Platte R-II School Cafeteria, 935 Washington St., Weston. Comments will be accepted on the revised Prevention of Significant Deterioration permit.

Interested people must request in advance to speak at the public hearing. If the department does not receive requests to speak at the public hearing by noon on Friday, Sept. 19, the department will cancel the hearing. People may also submit written comments to the department regarding any relevant information, materials and views in support of or in opposition to the proposed amendment.

Sept. 23. Written comments and oral public hearing testimony are treated with equal consideration.

The department's Air Pollution Control Program issued a permit to Kansas City Power & Light in January 2006 for the construction of a coal-fired boiler (Iatan Unit 2), a fuel oil-fired auxiliary boiler, associated storage, handling and pollution control equipment, a fuel oil storage tank and a landfill, all adjacent to Kansas City Power & Light's existing power plant near Weston.  This permit is being amended to cover the following:
