JEFFERSON CITY, MO, AUG. 26, 2008 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources approved the closure and post-closure plans for Lake City Army Ammunition Plant.
Lake City Army Ammunition Plant is located at the intersection of Missouri highways 78 and 7 in Independence and has an inactive landfill. The landfill was used to dispose of wastewater treatment sludge and dewatered oil residue from an industrial wastewater treatment plant. Lake City Army Ammunition Plant is required to close the landfill. The proposed closure plan recommends a final cap system.
